I got into financial services through a path most advisors don't take. I studied the Russian language and ended up working at a Philadelphia-area bank that served a large Russian and Ukrainian immigrant population. My job was to translate, but the real work was taking complex financial concepts and explaining them in a way that made sense to people navigating life in a new country. That's where I found what I actually enjoyed about this business: helping people solve their most important financial questions.
I've been in the industry for 11 years, working at TD Bank, Vanguard, and Lincoln Investment before joining Dort Financial Investment Services. My father spent his career in financial services, focused on brokerage operations and compliance. When I was younger, I had no intention of following in his footsteps because I didn't understand the complex issues he dealt with. But once I found myself explaining those same issues to clients, I finally built the foundation I'd been missing.
What I've learned is that one of the biggest reasons people look for a financial advisor is because their financial situation has accumulated to the point where they can't manage everything themselves. The act of decluttering that situation is often just as powerful as any investment strategy. I work with clients on retirement planning, investment management, estate planning, and tax-aware strategies. A plan should be a living, breathing thing that changes as your life changes, not a one-time solution.
One of the most interesting things I've noticed is that the people who've accumulated the most wealth over time didn't do it by picking the best stock every time. They did it with simple, repeatable habits: saving consistently, not panicking during market volatility, and having a solid grasp of their goals.
I live in Grand Blanc with my wife, Alexandra, and our two sons, Zachary and Luka. Outside of work, I've played guitar for over 20 years, enjoy long runs when the weather cooperates, and recently took up mixed martial arts at Cosen's Martial Arts. I'm also a member of the Flint-Genesee, Grand Blanc, and Swartz Creek Chambers of Commerce, and my wife and I are parishioners at St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church in Fenton.
I hold my BA from Dickinson College, my MA from Miami University, and have earned my Certified Tax Specialist (CTS™) and Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) designations.
What I bring is a willingness to meet you at your level and speak in terms that make sense, not mystify you with jargon. If you're looking for someone who'll help simplify your financial life and build a plan that grows with you, let's talk.
